Differentiate between sclerenchyma and parenchyma tissue draw well labelled diagram

Q- Differentiate between sclerenchyma and parenchyma tissue. Draw well labeled diagram.

Answer- Parenchyma tissue:

1. The word parenchyma is composed from two Greek words ‘Para’ that means ‘beside’ and ‘enchyma’ that mean ‘filing’.

2. The parenchymal cells are generally oval, rounded and isodiametric.

3. The parenchymal cells are usually loosely packed.

4. The cell wall of parenchyma cells are made up of cellulose.

5. Parenchyma cells are primarily helps in storage of food. (For example starch grains in the parenchymal cells of potato tuber). It also provide support to the stem of herbaceous plants. It acts as packaging tissue between the specialized tisues.

Sclerenchyma:

1. The word sclenchyma is composed from two Greek words ‘sclera’ that means ‘hard’ and ‘enchyma’ that mean ‘filing’.

2. The sclerenchymal cells are generally isodiametric and enlogated.

3. The sclerenchymal cells are not too much loosely packed.

4. The cell wall of sclerenchyma cells are made up of lignin.

5. Sclerenchyma cells are primarily for mechanical support (chief mechanical tissue) so enables the plant to resist various strains.
