Explain three types of meristematic tissues

Q- Explain three types of meristematc tissues.

Answer- The cells present in meristematic tissue did cell division throughout the life. The meristematic tissue helps in growth of the plant as the cells present in meristematic tissue did cell division throughout the life. Meristematic tissue are living in nature. Meristematic tissue are oval, rounded and polygonal shaped. The cells in meristematic tissue have thin cell wall. The cell wall present in cells of Meristematic tissue is formed of cellulose. The cytoplasm of Meristematic tissue is non-vaculated.

Mainly the meristematic tissue is of three types:

1. Apical meristematic tissue

2. Intercalary meristem

3. Lateral meristem

Apical meristem lies in the apical or apex region of the plant. It is found in both apex of root as well as shoot of plant. The apical meristem is responsible for primary growth in plant.

The Intercalary meristem lies in the bases of leaves and internodes of stem of grasses. It helps in longitudinal or primary growth in plants.

The lateral meristem is found at trunk of girth part of the plant and tree. It is responsible for increasing diameter of the plant and tree.
