Q- State the location and function of different types of meristems.
Answer- On the basis of their location meristem are divided into three main types:
1. Apical meristem
2. Intercalary meristem
3. Lateral meritem
Apical meristem: The apical meristem is located in the apex region of the plant. It is found in both apex of root as well as apex of shoot. It is a primary tissue and also helps in longitudinal growth of plant.
Intercalary meristem: The Intercalary meristem is located at the base of leaf and inters nodes of monocots such as: grasses. It is a primary tissue and also helps in longitudinal growth of plant.
Lateral meristem: The Lateral meristem is located in lateral side of stem and root of plants and trees. It is found in both apex of root as well as apex of shoot. It is a primary tissue and also helps in growth of diameter and girth of plants and trees.
