what are the functions of phloem

Q- What are the functions of phloem?

Answer- Phloem tissue is part of vascular bundle in plant and tree. Phloem tissue is consisted mainly of three types of cells: Sieve tube cells, companion cell, phloem parenchyma and phloem fibre. It conducts upward movement as well as downward movement of food and nutrients in plant and tree. The flow of phloem tissue is bidirectional.

1. Phloem tissue is responsible for upward conduction of food and nutrients in plant and tree.

2. The phloem parenchyma of phloem tissue helps in storage of food and short range conduction of food and nutrients to other parts of the body whereas the long range conduction of food and nutrients to other parts is done by sieve tube cells and companion cells in Phloem tissue.

3. Phloem fibre is responsible for providing mechanical support to the plant.
