Q- What is polyculture of fishes? Give its significance.
Answer- The method of cultivation of different types of fishes such as Catla, labeo, Mrigal e.t.c. having different ecological nitches simultaneously in same water bodies is called as polyculture. In helps all the ecological zones of the water body so increases the fish yield from that particular water body.
Polyculture is very beneficial for fish farming as in it the ecological zones of water bodies divides among the fishes as some fishes are surface feeder (Catla catla), column feeder (Labeo rohita), Bottom feeder (Mrigal) and some are consumes grass and plants of water (grass carp). So that the outcome of polyculture is more in quantity.
