Q- Why were FCI granaries overflowing with food grains and how was the situation controlled?
Answer- The stock of wheat and rice in FCI granaries was 63 million tonnes which was more than the minimum buffer norms that is 24.3 million tonnes in year 2002.
After 2002 during year 2003 the stock eased over operations undertaken by the government as the year was declared as draught year due to failure of crop of monsoon.
After some months the stock that was overloaded was released in several government schemes to help poor and needy people.
