Q- Explain the term “water divide” with examples? What is its significance?
Answer- Water divide refers to any elevated area such as mountain or a plateau that works as a separator or divider to divide two drainage basins.
For example- Ambala is located at the water divide between the Indus river and the Ganga river. This hill does not receive water from any of these two rivers.
The significances of water divide are as follows:
1. Water divide works as a separator or divider to divide two drainage basins. This prevents chances of overflowing of water in one stream. As if there is no water divide the both stream mixes and the volume of water get increased.
2. These water divide helps in preventing creation of making of big basins because the big basins causes flood in the nearby states of that area.
