why did Indian peasants begin to agitate against the low prices of opium

Q- Why did Indian peasants begin to agitate against the low prices of opium?

Answer- In early 18th century British forced Indian farmers to plant commercial crop such as opium and buy that opium crop from them in cheap rate and then sell it to agent in Culcutta who export it to China. This difference between buying and selling is the revenue that was generated by British government.

After some years the colonial government decided to increase its revenue from this turnover of opium crop so they started buying opium from farmers in a very low price this made Indian peasants begin to agitate against the low prices of opium.

The price that was offere by British government to farmers for opium crop was too low that the farmers cannot got their investment back. And we all know that opium crop need lots of effort to grow.
