Q- Why is Public Distribution System criticised?

Answer- Public Distribution System or PDS is a government sponsored chain of shops, entrusted with the work of providing food grains to poor people in affordable price to reduce poverty and make all people of the country food secure.

The Public Distribution System was criticised because of many reasons. Some of the major reasons behind it are as follows:

1. The sellers of food grains in PDS shops were engaged in black marketing or selling of that food grain to retail market instead of selling them to poor people.

2. The FCI godowns were overflowed with grains where some are rotting away and some are eaten by rats.
