Answer- (a) There are several peculiar characters of the cartilage fishes but the six main peculiar features or characters of cartilage fishes are as follows:

1. The exoskeleton is formed of cartilage in these fishes.

2. Mouth is ventral and the ending gut is anus in these fishes. 

3. The heart of cartilage fish is 2 chambered and single circulatory. 

4. The gill slits of these fishes sare 5 to 7 in pair and are covered with operculum. 

5. The exoskeleton is formed of placoid scales.

6. These are exclusive marine.

 

(b) It is absolutely right that bony fishes are advanced as compared to cartilage fishes. Some of the points that prove the advancement of bony fishes over cartilage fishes are as follows:

1. There are 4 gill slits present that are covered with operculum.
