Q- (a) Name the plant tissue found in the husk of coconut and also identify the chemical which is responsible for its stiffness.

(b) What types of cells are found in sclerenchyma and parenchyma. Write their functions also.

Answer- (a) Sclerenchyma tissue are found in the husk of coconut. Sclerenchyma tissue is chemically composed of Lignin deposits.

(b) Sclerenchyma tissues are present or located in the monocot stem, husk of coconut seed coats, nut shells e.t.c. . The tissues found in sclerenchyma are generally thick walled and lignified wall with pits. There is no intercellular space is present.

The parenchyma tissue of plant are generally located in softer parts of the plant such as epidermis, cortex, endodermis, pericycle, pith e.t.c. . The parenchymal cells are thin walled living, no pitted and without intercellular space. These tissues have cell wall made up of cellulose.

Parenchyma tissues are mainly responsible for storage and packaging in plant.
