So, a group of several hundred people marched toward the eastern part of the city and stormed the fortress prison, the bastille. In that alarming fight, the commander of the bastille was killed and all the prisoners were released. Since the bastille stood for the despotic power of the king, it made french people take the next step against the king and this gave birth to the French revolution.
