Q- When Madhurima went to the property registration office, the Registrar told her, “you cannot write your name as Madhurima Banerjee daughter of A.K. Banerjee. TYou are married so you must give your husband’s name. You husband’s surname is Rao.” She did not agree. She said “If mu husband’s name has not changes after marriage, why should mine?” In your opinion who is right in this in this dispute? And why?

Answer- Madhurima Banerjee is right as this is her freedom to choose surname. This right provides her freedom to choose surname as her wish. No one can force her to change it. In this above case the property registration officer has no legal right to ask her to change her surname this is illegal or can be said as crime. Madhurima Banerjee can submit a complaint against the property officer in the Court on the violation of her rights.
