Q- Write the functions of parenchyma, collenchyma and sclerenchyma.

Answer- Parenchyma:

Parenchymal cells are thin walled. The cells in parenchyma tissues are living in nature. The cell wall of parenchymal cells are formed of cellulose.

The Parenchyma tissues performs several function but they are primarily responsible for storing food in plant. It also provides support to the stem of herbaceous pants. They act as packaging tissue between the specialized tissues.

Collenchyma:

Collenchymal cells are thick walled. The cells in collenchyma tissues are also living in nature. The cell wall of collenchymal cells are formed of pectin.

The collenchyma tissues performs several function but they are primarily responsible for mechanical support and elasticity. That is why they allow plants to bend down through high velocity wing. These cells reduce the chances of uprooting plants as they make them flexible.


Sclerenchyma:

Sclerenchymal cells are also thick walled. The cells in sclenchyma tissues are dead in nature. The cell wall of sclenchymal cells are formed of lignin or are lignified.

The sclenchyma tissues perform several function but they are primarily responsible for mechanical support. That is why sclenchyma tissues are called as chief mechanical tissue. That is why they enables the plant to resist various strains.
